Halong bay consists of all karst limestone islands coming up from the sea water, but in Trangan - Tamcoc - Van Long - Thung Nang - Thung Nham in Ninhbinh includes karst limestone mountains coming up from the river water. The limestone islands and mountains of the two areas are all so amazing with beautiful caves. It is hard to say which one is more beautiful.

However, I can show you the different experience: In Halong bay, you will explore the karst limestone mountains by overnight cruises like floating hotels run by engines but you will explore the karst limestone mountains in Ninhbinh ( Trangan - Tamcoc - Vanlong...) by sampans rowed by local people.

Both Halong bay and Trangan complex in Ninhbinh have been voted as UNESCO Natural Heritage Sites. Trangan is also voted UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site where the local people are living inside the heritage site and the former capital was inside the area, too.
