Catba island at glance

Catba is the biggest island among almost 1969 islands of Halong bay. Located on the side of Halong bay, Catba island comprises 367 large and rocky islands rising out of the sea. The island is covered with lush vegetation and forest. The national park is 15.200 ha large with 570 ha of primary tropical forest which is rich in fauna and vegetation. Catba national park is famous with poliocephalus or leucocephalus which is a special kind of monkey family. There are only 59 members left in the world and all live here. Kim Giao tree is the most precious one in Vietnam since ancient time for royal families. It is said that the chopsticks made of this timber could tell the food with poison ornot.

Thanks to its mystical and attractive nature, UNESCO recognised it as the World Biosphere Reserve with 26.000 ha in size in which 2 middle circles have no exist of human and 2 circles for economic and tourism development under high protection conditions. The Biosphere Reserve includes tropical rain forest on limstone mountains, mangrove forests, coral reefs and amazing cave system.
